Geothermal Energy
The Good Shepherd Ranch has terrain conditions ideally suited for utility-scale renewable energy development. This acreage is located near both a Western Area Power Administration 230 kV overhead transmission line and a San Miguel Power Association 3-Phase underground power distribution line. The property is remotely situated. The vast acreage ensures a buffer between neighbors and energy development components without obstructing scenic views.
The geology of the site demonstrates excellent potential for utility-scale geothermal development. Geothermal energy is one of the only forms of renewable energy that can provide 24/7 reliable baseload power, all while continuously recycling the heat generated from near surface volcanic activity below.
Notably, there is a huge push for more clean energy projects with the new mandate to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2040. Geothermal is the only renewable technology with the capacity consistency that can truly help Colorado meet this mandate.
Direct Uses for Geothermal Energy, including heating for greenhouses, residential, and other building structures, including a pool facility. This “district heating” can also be circulated under roadways and areas where snowmelt is needed to maintain access to the development during winter months.
